Who Am I? Part 2

I know I’ve done a similar video at the beginning of the semester, but this time I showed more of myself. I chose this song because it always makes me think of summer, which is usually when I’m the happiest. I chose videos that basically represent me as a person. So overall, putting this together was relatively easy. I think I’d definitely choose a different audio if I were to do this again, only because I don’t love the off brand version of this song LOL.

I think making this video, made me realize I need to document more things in my life that make me, me.

The Happiest Place on Earth…

For this assignment, I really wanted to make this seem a bit sad (as this is probably the last big family vacation for a while). I didn’t want to be extremely sad, so I still chose a somewhat nice beat. I didn’t take many videos from the trip back in June of 2021, which kind of stinks because I wish I could’ve included more in this as I think it would’ve tied things in more.

But I think this video has a lot of meaning to me. I took some old pictures from another Disney trip my family took, and I edited them to look older as if they are more like memories. Then I wanted to jump to our most recent trip, but I needed to do that someway for everyone to understand. So I included a sappy little part saying fast forward blah blah blah. I tried to maneuver my audio so the sound sort of dropped once it got to our recent trip, but I couldn’t do it at all.

Christmas in March?

So for this assignment, I kind of went a bit… well a lot off script. My issue was if I would’ve followed the strict 25 movie clip part, my video probably would’ve been like an hour long. So instead, I just grabbed 3 clips from my favorite Christmas movies (but don’t fret ā€“ I did leave out Elf, and that is my all time favorite one. Can literally say it word for word. I just couldn’t find any clips for it that I liked). But since I limited the number of clips, I was able to put a lot of focus on the sound, clipping, and my title/closing parts.

So, I started off by doing the usual 4K video downloader, and finding clips on YouTube that I liked. Once I uploading them into iMovie, I then went on the hunt for music. Now this was a struggle, I had a specific sound in mind that I wanted to use. After lots and lots and I mean LOTS of digging I found the perfect one. I think this sound goes really well the two movies that I put it with. I chose to not put it with the Polar Express, because I used that as sort of the introduction (there’s more of an excitement and uncertainty if that makes sense). During the Santa Claus clip, you’ll notice that the Jingle Bell Rock music cuts out when he says “Does this look like a little bit of weight to you?” and I fully did that on purpose. The guy I care give for is OBSESSED with Disney, and that saying in the Santa Claus is one of his favorites. It’s a really special clip for me, because now whenever I watch the movie I think about him. So making this video really brought me a lot of joy.

After cutting and moving clips around, I then worked on my title/closing credits portion. I decided to be ~different~ and put my title slide after the Polar Express clip. I did this, because well 1. when I had the title slide at the beginning, it cut into the Polar Express clip abruptly and I hated that there was no flow 2. Again the excitement and uncertainty. I think using the title part a little further in the video makes it feel more like a movie (I watched a movie the other day where the title was 30 minutes in the movie… honestly THAT was weird, but I think where mine is works). I wasn’t sure exactly how to format my credits. I know our resources said to give credits to basically everything, but I wasn’t sure what everything meant. Then when it got time to upload my video to YouTube… this is when things got tricky. Naturally I got copyrighted, had no clue what that meant for my video. Ended up reaching out to the professor while I waited for a response I started Googling some stuff (0/10 recommend doing that). That then led me to making a Vimeo. Once I got a response though, I was able to actually understand what the copyright thingy meant so I was okay to post it on YouTube. Which I’m glad because Vimeo completely destroyed the quality of my video for some reason.

Also since I didn’t fully uphold the requirements for the assignment (though we are able to do our own twist for things), I decided to create my own title part on Canva. I did a quick Google search for transparent images of my favorite Christmas movies, and just slapped them on there.

Overall this assignment was super fun to do. It really ties into our class theme, because though it may be March and we have many… many… MANY months until Christmas; thinking about Christmas brings me so much joy, and that joy helps me become more creative. Though I spent a lot of this time talking about the elements, the elements all tie back into the joy I had creating this. I had a vision for this assignment, and I’m really happy with the outcome!

Overall this week was a lot of fun, but SO MUCH WORK. My computer is ready to give out on me now. I definitely learned a lot though too. I ended up completing I think 17 and a half stars? Which it honestly felt like more, because some of the assignments were extensive it felt like.

Video Essay

I think I made this assignment a lot harder than it needed to be. Honestly after watching this clip like 10 times, I could really see the different aspects they used.

They really utilized the camera in this scene. They angle the camera higher up to show authority. They pan the camera around the room to show dramatics. They also cut the camera back in forth during conversation to show a more “heated conversation.”

Based on where Meredith is in relation to her lawyer, you can tell it has an effect based on the reading.

Overall, I think without the dramatic music and camera angles this scene wouldn’t be as dramatic. Though the actors play a huge role in dramatics, without the camera it wouldn’t be the same which is the whole point of this assignment. It was important to realize the actors aren’t the main focus, but more so the things “behind the scenes.”

I also used the 4K video editor to take the clip from YouTube (which was really cool to do). And used iMovie to import the clip in, and do a VoiceOver!

Excel Tutorial for my mom

I’m begging everyone to not watch the full video. I thought I knew Excel, but this tutorial really humbled me LOL. My mom recently started a new job. She hasn’t really used Excel in… 15 years? Now she uses it everyday. She asked me for help, but I never have the time to help her. Then I realized AFTER making this video, she basically knows how to do this stuff (probably better than me because I acted like this was my first time using it, but it’s been a long day so just be a little nice). My original video was 17 minutes long, and I tried uploading it to YouTube but my computer… sounded like it was about to take off so I had to stop.

All I did was screen record for this tutorial and threw it into iMovie to trim it down a bit.

This assignment was 4 stars but it should’ve been 15 because my computer ~hated it~

What I eat in a day

For this assignment I got inspiration from Cece’s video! I always see these videos on TikTok, so I also made mine on there too (it only seemed fitting). I started by just recording the videos on my regular camera then importing them into TikTok. I used all of the TikTok features like the sound, text, and speech text. It was super easy, but I still had a lot of fun!

Looking at other peoples project ideas

I really liked the idea of advocating for sharks. It seemed like she already had a pretty thought out plan for how she wanted to approach this, but I think it could be interesting to tie in different sea creatures. This would help expand a lot of the media produced, so it wouldn’t just be sharks. I did watch the trailer her and her partner came up with, and I thought it was a great idea to promote the project more! I think this project would do really well for video rather than just strictly audio. You could create that narrative you want, but also showing it visually and telling more of a story.

The other idea I really liked was the life after college brainstorm. Though she had a pretty solid plan to interview teachers (from what I recall?) during the first brainstorm. But I think I like this idea more, only for the fact that its more broad and more people could relate to listening. I think she could easily tie in interviewing teachers, and just ask them the same questions. But I like the idea of opening it up to more professions. It would also be really cool to ask people who are really far into their careers, what’s something they regret in their life post college. Also I know a ton of people have seen those TikTok’s where people go up to random strangers and ask them a random questions. It would be really cool if you were to include this, it could be apart of a trailer for the project. Though they don’t have to be people you interview for the project, it could just be like “a lot of people have opinions about life after college…. blah blah blah.” Overall, I think you could take this project a million different ways, but I really like where it’s heading!

10 Tips from Amy

Warning: this is a joke LOL.

This assignment seemed easy at first, until I started realizing I have no tips to give anyone lol. So I kind of just thought of random things.

I again used iMovie, and a free music website to download music for it. And just sort of used the standard features that are in iMovie to edit everything. I wouldn’t be offended if someone said a 5 year old could’ve made this, but honestly iMovie is so hard to work and my computer hates it.

By far my favorite assignment

When I tell you I absolutely LOVED doing this assignment, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I’ve probably watched this video a million times now, because it really is a memory that I love. I’m not too big on taking videos, so when the assignment said a 30 second clip, I was a bit hesitant in doing this (because most of my videos are from snapchat and they aren’t super long). Well then I remembered during spring break I took my dog to the beach and recorded us running around like fools (it was mainly so I could show my mom that I wasn’t just sitting around being lazy the entire week). But this video truly is a memory, and it’s a time I will never forget because my dog was SO happy, and ~cringey I know~ but I’m happy with my dog. She really is my Joy of Painting. My joy of life.

Now onto the nitty gritty part of the assignment. I made it in iMovie, so I started off by putting my clip into the software. Then I went to free sounds.org to find a nice guitar sound to make it feel more relaxing (because this is a memory that makes me happy and relaxed). I then ran into some trouble because iMovie kept cutting the audio from my video, which I really wanted to keep because it adds more to the moment. After putting my clip back in and deleting it like 5 times, I managed to get it to work. I then lowered the sound of the piano, and increased the background volume, then used one of the filters iMovie had to make it feel more like a memory. I also had to zoom the video in because I took it portrait style, and when I zoomed in it made the quality TERRIBLE. But I think zooming helped fit the assignment more, and made it look more like an old memory. Though the assignment said a 30 second memory, and at first I was nervous I wouldn’t find a video long enough my memory ended up being a minute long, but honestly it doesn’t even feel a minute long because I kind of forget about time when I watch it.

Now let me stop rambling, because I just sound cheesy at this point.
